The
Magliano nature refuge was first established
in 1984 by the city of Forlì to protect
the local avifauna. The refuge extends over an area of 650
hectares and is situated between the districts of
Forlì, Forlimpopoli,
and Bertinoro.
The refuge is primarily comprised of farmlands and areas
that had previously served as gravel mines and is thus characterized
by an abundance of small lakes. The Ronco River
flows through the refuge, further contributing to its colonization
by specific types of plants and animals that are typical of
humid habitats.
Rather
large fluvial woodlands have emerged along the river banks
and the immensely diversified territory has created an ecotonal
environment of great faunal value.
Birdwatchers and visitors are invited to
walk along the trails and stop at observation points and feeders
that are specifically placed on sandy grounds for the identification
of animal prints.
Approximately 130 species of birds and 30
species of mammals can easily be observed throughout
the different seasons.
